Matt Nuberger's recent message about survival and sur-thrival of businesses that have managed to make their way into the new year was a sign of recognition for most business owners present yesterday at the Accelerent Executive Breakfast at the Visionary Art Museum. Most of those who attended felt proud to be part of that crew of survivors who have not only stayed in business for 2010 but have also had the resources to expand and develop and join business platforms like Accelerent.
Baltimore Mediation did enter 2011 with one new team member handling marketing and outreach and two new collaborators for business development. Not only that but we have also joined Accelerent and we are driving at full speed ahead into various new training projects and government contracts. We are sur-thriving!
Last year however, the number of mediation cases decreased as people became more and more suspicious and chose the litigation process over mediating their issues.
However, as the spring comes, we are warming up and some of us are more prone to resolving conflicts that erupted in 2010. Our office is getting more inquiries about mediation and what it means, and soon enough our "sur-thrival" might become a time crisis. These are all signs of a mature business: the more you age, the less you find time to do all the things that you want to. Therefore the stronger the incentives to get new staff, hence the expansion, and so on and so forth. It's the snow ball effect of business.
Welcome to the market of conflict!
